I am an occupational therapist and I want to inspire younge Australians to become young aged care professionals. My vision is to create a new approach in the industry where age diversity and leadership is encouraged throughout the workforce.
This has been my journey with Aim for the Stars....
My dream is that young people view a profession in aged care as a great employment option that provides them a job; a job they love and one that loves them back. This is about closing the gap between the youth and the aged in our community and bringing them together to create a strong future for all.
The money from the AFTS scholarship was used for to attend and speak at a conference on the Gold Coast, participate in a 'Leading through Fear' coaching course, and also helped me purchase organisational supplies/memberships.
My incredible mentor Alison has helped me improve my confidence, brainstorm ideas, and also connected me with amazing individuals through her personal networks. With this increase in confidence, I have started to utilise my personal networks so I can grow with a better strategy.
This has led to me hosting events in Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth this September with a fantastic line up of aged care leaders, PLUS securing sponsorship with KPMG for these events (saving me $3,000 minimum in costs).
Becoming a 2016 sisTAR has meant so much to me. It has shown me that people believe in what I am trying to achieve, I can see how my networks are supporting me and my vision, and this is leading to a business model that (will soon) be sustainable.
Thank you so much to everyone who has supported Aim for the Stars!
