Deanna is a 14 yr old Short Track Speed Skater. Deanna has been skating for 4 years and is a member of the Roos Short Track Speed Skating Club in Brisbane. Deanna has placed first in the Australian Nationals in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009. Having broken records in the 250m, 400, and 500m divisions, she has been invited to be part of the Elite Development Squad and is its youngest member. This squad is designed for skaters selected in future Olympic Winter Institute of Sport Squads. As part of this squad, Deanna is able to train with the National Coach and the National Team. Deannas dream is to skate for Australia at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Russia.

When did you start?
I began Short Track Speed Skating when I was 9 years old. All I wanted to do was to go fast, so my parents took me there to give it a try. Five years later I am still here
Career highlight or biggest achievement?
I have been fortunate to have had opportunities to travel and compete in our National Competitions around Australia, and also a New Zealand National Competition. But I would have to say being the Australian National Champion for 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009 in various divisions has been exciting for me. But I think last year when I broke the 250m record during the competition, made it special.
What is your dream?
My dream is to be on the National Team, and to represent Australia at the World Cups and ultimately at the Winter Olympics in 2014 in Russia.
Who's your hero?
I don’t really have a hero. I take inspiration from many people. Tatianna Bordulina, a fellow short track speed skater, with her relentless dedication to training. Apolo Anton Ohno a famous US skater, and his tactics. They both inspire me in different ways.
Any other special talents?
I also do Cross country running for my school, I was accepted in to a great school, due to sporting merit, and have an awesome cross country coach there.

How the grant will help you/how will you use the money?
