Pursuit: Freestyle wrestling and rural & remote medicine

A member of the Australian Freestyle Wrestling team since 2001, Kyla has her sights set on the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. But, wrestling is just one of Kyla’s skills. Currently a full time student at the University of Sydney, Kyla is studying medicine with hopes to spend her time as a Doctor working in a rural coastal Australian community and for the Aboriginal Medical Service. Funds from Aim for the Stars will assist Kyla in focussing on her goals to be a Doctor and Olympic Champion.

Started wrestling in 1994. Started medical school in 2003.

CAREER HIGHLIGHT AND BIGGEST ACHIEVMENT?
Winning the Australian National Wrestling Championships and being a member of the World Championships team.

WHAT IS YOUR DREAM?
To go to the Olympics. To have an enjoyable career in medicine. To have a happy family. To stay fit for the rest of my life. To climb more mountains...

WHO OR WHAT HAVE INSPIRED YOU?
I am inspired by people who really love what they do.

WHO'S YOUR HERO?
There are so many people who do amazing things and whom I admire. I can't really say I have a hero though.

ANY MORE SPECIAL TALENTS?
I love rock climbing and mountaineering.

FAVOURITE MUSIC?
I love all sorts of music but my favourite for the long drive out to Broken Hill is the Dixie Chicks.

FAVOURITE MOVIE?
The Shawshank Redemption.

FAVOURITE BOOK?
No Great Mischief by Alistair McLeod.

FAVOURITE TV SHOW?
Sex and the City.

FAVOURITE FOOD?
Berries, especially blackberries and raspberries and cherries.
